Modern day moose hunting in Maine began in 1980. The state skipped a year to work out some bugs in the system and it has run consecutively since 1982. Dave is the only guide in Maine that has guided in every moose hunt from 1980 to today. He is on his way to be the first guide in modern history to successfully complete 100 moose harvests for his clients. No other outfitter in Maine can say this.

Dave guided his first hunt in 1980. He personally killed his first Maine moose in 1982 by the use of calling during the Maine moose hunt. He learned the art of calling from his Great-grandfather who was a successful market hunter in Maine when it was legal. Dave since that time has been a researcher of moose language, first studying under the late Maryo Pepin of Buck Expert Research Center and then on his own through Buck Expert Research Center. Dave has since cataloged 29 sounds that moose make to communicate with each other throughout the entire year. Dave has since provided information on why some female moose have calves and others don't.

Dave's moose sounds are now available on the Western Rivers Electronic Calls. Western Rivers now has the most complete set of moose sounds ever offered by a call company.

Dave has also come up with his own line of moose calls for Eastern, Yukon, and Siberian Moose.

Since 1980 Dave has hunted in New Hampshire, Vermont, Canada, and Europe and Maine. His knowledge of moose and their vocalizations is second to none. Universities and fish and game departments have used Dave's input for their research.

He works for the largest wildlife research facility in North America, Buck Expert Research Center. Dave was very instrumental in the research and development of the moose decoy that is in place today. His knowledge prompted him to write the definitive book on moose hunting, Moose Hunting, Calling, Decoying and Stalking. To date no other book has opened more insight into the behavior of moose. To Dave moose hunting is not a sport, it is a religion! It is often said that Dave speaks two languages, English and moose!

Zone 1 All inclusive hunt from Wild Cat Lodge, Estcourt Station, Maine. With this hunt you get meals lodging and guide service. We also quarter your moose and debone the rib cage, neck and loins. Your meat will be wrapped in cheese cloth. We recommend that you bring a freezer with in your truck or trailer. This way you can get your meat home to your own butcher. Woods caping is also included. This hunt is 70 miles into the back country. The lodge has electricity, running water, cell service, and other amenities. Cost $4000.00.

Zone 2, 3, or 6 hunts all inclusive from Lakeside Lodge on Long Lake, Sinclair, Maine. With this hunt you get meals lodging and guide service. We also quarter your moose and debone the rib cage, neck and loins. Your meat will be wrapped in cheese cloth. Woods caping is also included. We recommend that you bring a freezer with in your truck or trailer. This way you can get your meat home to your own butcher. You will stay in your own 1 or 2 bedroom suite complete with full kitchen, Satellite TV, and Wi-Fi. Cost $3000.00

For those on a budget we offer the following hunts.

Partially Outfitted Hunt zones 2, 3, and 6 from Lakeside Lodge You get a 1 or 2 bedroom suite at the lodge with kitchen and dining area, satellite TV, and Wi-Fi. Guide, transportation, your moose will be quartered and the rib cage, neck and loins will be deboned. Woods caping is also included. You do your own breakfast and lunch, dinner will be served by us when you get back to lodge each night. Cost $2550.00

Economy Guided zones 2, 3, and 6 from Lakeside Lodge. You get Lodging in your own 1 or 2 bedroom suite with kitchen and dinning area. Satellite TV, and Wi-Fi. Guide with equipment to remove your moose from the woods. You use your own truck and gas and supply your own meals. We will also quarter and debone the rib cage, neck and loins and wrap in cheese cloth for you to take your meat home. Cost $2000.00

Semi-Guided Hunt zones 2, 3, and 6 from Lakeside Lodge. You get a 1 or 2 bedroom suite with everything mentioned above. A guide will spend 4 hours with you with your vehicle on Sunday showing you areas to hunt. You take care of the rest. Cost $950.00

The I Need a Moose Plan zones 2, 3, and 6 from Lakeside Lodge. You get a 1 or 2 bedroom suite with everything mentioned above. You will have a guide for the first three days of your hunt using your vehicle and gas. The guide will have his own equipment for getting a moose out. While with the guide on the first three days he will get your moose out but you are responsible for it once it hits the back of your truck or trailer. Should you need the guide's services after Wednesday night to get your moose out or to continue hunting there will be an extra charge. Basic Cost $1500.00

If you are doing a hunt on your own from Lakeside Lodge and you decide that you need a guide later in the week, if we have a guide available we can provide you with one for a set fee of $900.00. The guide will get your moose out of the woods and you are responsible for it once it hits the back of your truck. You get the guide and his equipment you use your own vehicle and gas.

We only offer hunts for no more than three parties per week, usually it is less. We are not guiding the hunts to make money! We guide those that want a quality hunt and understand what hunting actually is!
